Star Boy Wizkid is currently the Music Industry flag bearer for Nigeria.
It is not a new a trend except for the new followers of Nigerian Music and Musicians. It started years back when the Legends like King Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Obey, Late Sir Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, Late Fela Anikulapo, Majek Fashek, Doctor Alban among others exported Nigerian content to the world. Their sounds was widely accepted despite the differences in their languages,
King of the new school, Eedris Abdul-Kareem came in when he presented Nigeria as an Olympic Torch Bearer for the country and also for the continent. Well!, it wasn’t easy for him too because he got haters too. Abdul-Kareem fought for Nigerian artistes indirectly and now they are all reaping from his arrogancy (I will be emphasizing on this soon). Eedris has prophesies so many thing about the industry and most of them are now a reality
Then later, not too long, 2Face Idibia 2Baba represent Nigeria internationally. 2baba’s single Nfana Ibaga attracted Bennie Man that he called for a remix with Ghanian musician Reggie Rockstone. 2baba didn’t stop there, he went further more collaborating with top international stars like Wyclef, Mary J. Blige, etc. P Square took it up but didn’t move as much as 2face did. Koko Master Dbanj came in when his Master Blast Single Oliver Twist rocketed the world. 9ice took Gongon Aso to Nelson Mandela’s birthday.
But take it or leave it, accept it or decline it…. Wizkid surpasses everyone listed above except Late Fela Anikulapo Kuti who was nominated for Grammy Awards. Wizkid was initially flying the industry flag of Nigeria but now he is flying and representing his continent Africa.

Name the collaborations, Drake, Akon, Chris Brown, R-Kelly, Tinie Tempah, Skepta, Future, Trey Songz, French Montana. The list are endless.
Will you want to talk about his gaga concerts in Africa, Europe and the home of music America? Halls, clubs couldn’t accommodate the crowd willing to watch Wizkid perform his local but international accepted tunes.
You can call it pride but I will want to let you know that it’s Wizkid’s time.
Locally, you can’t take it away from Olamide who never relent in dropping singles, Phyno, CDQ, Small Doctor, Timaya, Wande Coal, and co won’t let the street go dry. Wizkid rep both here and there because his lyrics are still local contents.
Beefing is allow. 2Baba was beefed, Eedris Abdulkareem was beefed, Dbanj was beefed. So I believe “beefing” is a major ingredient of their success. 9ice said “Omo Na Turn By Turn” and it’s the best word to qualify what Wizkid is upto now. It could be Davido’s turn tommorow and he might went farer than Wizkid, it could be Kiss Daniel, it could be Govie, Skales, Tekno, Runtown, etc. So many hard working young musicians can attract the world just as Star Boy Wizzy.
