VEEN PUTS HIS STAMP ON 2020 WITH THE RELEASE OF “ON IMPACT”, HIS NEW EP

Port-Harcourt based rapper, producer Veen comes through with a sonic expression of his emotions, experiences, and creativity across time on his latest EP On Impact. Listen HERE.

As an artist, producer, engineer, and even graphic designer, Veen represents a multi-hyphenate generation of creatives in Nigeria. The follow up to the collaborative EP ‘Star’ with his brother Kiienka is his latest project, On Impact. Born of his personal experiences and certain relationships, the EP is a personal yet triumphant outing from the fast-rising Nigerian star. His ability to fluidly bend genres creates a sonic experience merging trap, RnB, pop, and neo-soul.

From the defiant opener ‘Do It Again’, he makes it clear that this project is about overcoming, as he takes aim at his doubters and the obstacles he’s faced. His introspection remains a running theme on songs like ‘Crib’ as he soulfully details the issues in a relationship he’s trying to save. The rumbling track is a fusion of trap and RnB elements, an environment he finds extremely comfortable.

On a project so personal, it’s fitting that the only features are from Kiienka and fellow 44DB Collective member Tochi Bedford. Their collaboration on ‘In My Bag’ is a bouncy affair showcasing why these three are at the forefront of a new wave in Nigerian music. On Southern Steeze, homage is paid to Port Harcourt, with Veen’s raw energy acting as the perfect representation for the pride and energy of the south. Ultimately, the message of On Impact is one of hope as he wants his listeners to know that anything is possible regardless of the circumstances you might be facing.

In what has already been a busy year for this rising talent, this project shows that he has no intention of slowing down anytime soon. With endorsements from Ebro Darden in tow, and over 60 production credits in 4 years including Ice Prince and Skales, the multifaceted artist is poised to shine brighter than ever.

 Kelvin “Veen” Legborsi Johnson (Born June 18, 1998) is a Nigerian rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, and entrepreneur. Starting out in 2013 initially as “Kxng Veen”, he started writing lyrics to beats of popular songs, recording and releasing them online for free downloads.

After learning to produce and engineer, he released his first body of work “Untitled” in late November 2017, an EP that he made with his brother and frequent collaborator, Kiienka. The project was a mix of Afro R&B and Trap.

In 2018, he released a number of singles including “UP” featuring Zarion Uti, “Ice Cold” and “Werk For Me” featuring PsychoYP & Kiienka. As an entrepreneur, Veen established Dolphn Radio with his brother and frequent collaborator Kiienka in 2018 as an Indie Record Label and as a Recording Studio.

Veen opened for Davido at the Plugged Music Festival in December 2018, surprising the audience with his performance as the only trap artist on stage that night. A few months into 2019, he released a 1-minute song “1M” with an accompanying video and later released his Debut EP, Eternal Flex which peaked at number 12 on the Apple Music Hip-Hop/Rap Charts in Nigeria. The standout song from that project, “Race” featuring PsychoYP would go on to gather over 100,000+ streams across digital streaming platforms with the EP doing over 200,000 streams in total.

While Veen mostly makes Trap music, his musical style is also a blend of Afrobeats and R&B which has come to be known as Afro R&B and/or Afrosoul. He cites several artists across different genres as influences on his musical style including rappers Drake, Travis Scott, and Kanye West and R&B and Afrobeats artists Jhene Aiko, Ty Dolla $ign, and Wizkid.

Veen as a producer has worked with notable artists. He produced the Beats 1/ Ebro Darden endorsed record “In the Ends” by Kiienka. He also produced “ALagos’ ‘ a song by Skales featuring Ice Prince and MC Makopolo. All of Veen’s songs and projects have been produced and engineered by himself. He also designs his album artworks himself with Adobe Photoshop proving that he can be self-sufficient.
