Twitter applauds Marcus Rashford after zero to hero display in England win
A standing ovation was no less than Marcus Rashford deserved after being substituted during England’s 2-1 win over Slovakia in World Cup Qualifying. Yet it didn’t look like that was on the cards for the attacker early on.
Rashford – and consequently England – got off to the worst possible start. Inside the opening five minutes, England were under a bit of pressure in their own half from the high-pressing Slovakians. The 19-year-old picked up the ball and attempted to dribble out of danger. Bad move. He had the ball taken from him and a chance was on.
A terrific chipped pass put Stanislav Lobotka through on goal and the midfielder made no mistake. How could he with nobody marking him? Again, fingers were pointed at Rashford, who was supposed to tracking the goalscorer.
Rashford the Hero
However, Rashford didn’t let this setback ruin his game. He would end up providing the assist for Eric Dier’s equaliser before sealing the comeback with the winning goal from outside the box. Understandably, Twitter was impressed.
