Taiwan election: Tsai Ing-wen elected first female president
Taiwan’s ruling party has conceded defeat in the island’s presidential elections as opposition leader Tsai Ing-wen has been elected the island’s first woman president. Ms Tsai, head of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) recorded more than 4,655,000 votes while Eric Chu of the ruling Nationalists or Kuomintang (KMT) had 2,614,000 votes.
