SINGER ADELE REVEALS SHE “QUIT SMOKING” BECAUSE SHE WAS AFRAID SHE MIGHT DIE
The British songstress revealed on Friday that she finally quit smoking, fearing that the bad habit might kill her.
If I’d carried on smoking, I’d probably have died from a smoking-related illness, and I think that’s really bad,” Adele told The Mirror.
“If I was dying from lung cancer I would have potentially given it to myself and that wouldn’t be something I’d be proud of,” she added.
The U.K. newspaper claims that Adele used to smoke 25 cigarettes a day and had been in 2011, when she was forced to cancel shows after she lost her voice during a live radio session in France. “Like someone put a curtain over my throat…and I could feel it,” Adele said of the scary situation during an interview with 60 Minutes in 2012. “It felt like something popped in my throat.”
The 27-year-old singer then underwent laser surgery when doctors discovered that a polyp on her vocal throat had hemorrhaged.
In addition to the medical issues, a big part of the reason Adele quit was for her son, Angelo, who she shares with her boyfriend of four years, Simon Konecki. “I absolutely loved it, but it’s not that f**king cool when I’m dying from a smoking-related illness and my kid is, like, devastated,” she told Rolling Stone last month.
Adele also told the magazine that not only has she squashed the nicotine vice, she’s significantly decreased her drinking. “I used to be able to drink anyone under the table and still be able to put on an all-right show,” she says, admitting she only has about one drink a week now. “But with kids, hangovers are torture. They just know. They pick up on it and just go for you.”
Lucky for both Angelo and us, Adele will be saying “hello” for quite a while. She’sset to hit the road in Europe in February, followed by tour dates stateside in July. That is, if you could even get a ticket to one of her U.S. dates.
Adele has been gushing over her 3-year-old son quite a bit lately. She recently opened up to 60 Minutes Australia about both her little man and Konecki, who she hopes is her “forever after”:
