A Romelu Lukaku, alcohol & Islam story retracted by 4 papers without a single apology

Four of England’s biggest papers – the Daily Mail, the Sun, The Mirror and the Express – have all been called out for fake news over the weekend.

Miqdaad Versi, the Assistant Secretary General of Muslim Council in England, has seen a tweet go viral after he’s spotted how the four papers all printed and retracted a story about Man United striker Romelu Lukaku without any of them publishing an apology for spreading false news in the first place.

Alcohol & Islam

The fake story which went viral alleged that Lukaku missed out on winning the man of the match award against Man City in a pre-season friendly in America for religious reasons.

United beat City 2-0 at the International Champions Cup, while it was claimed that organisers decided Lukaku shouldn’t be the MOTM because the Belgian striker is Muslim.

One of the prizes given to the MOTM was alcohol.

Just one problem…

Lukaku isn’t a Muslim, but a Christian.

In fact, the Man United striker previously featured in an article posted last year in Christian Today titled “Five Christian superstars of Euro 2016″.

The four papers have since all retracted the stories from their respective websites, but none of the papers have published an apology or explantation to their readers admitting their story was wholly false.

Tabloids made divisive reference to Lukaku’s faith. ALL retracted but forgot to announce retraction. Please share to correct their oversight
