Pepsi and Kendall Jenner Suffers Major Backlash over New Commercial and It’s Ugly
Beverage company, Pepsi, is currently being ripped to shreds on social media over their new Live for Now commercial featuring model/reality star Kendall Jenner.
The ‘controversial’ advert, which was released yesterday, stars a blonde Jenner as a high-fashion model who becomes the heroine of a vague protest after she offers a police officer a can of Pepsi.
Many of the protesters, who are people of different races, can be seen holding placards reading “Join the conversation” and “love.”
See the video below.
Unfortunately, reception of the advert has been far from warm and now, it has gone viral for all the wrong reasons.
Black Twitter is criticising Pepsi for seemingly co-opting Black Lives Matter to sell soda and using such a controversial issue for their advantage.
Some also ensured to point out that the brand simulated the iconic protest image of the serene woman at Baton Rouge in the fatal shooting of Alton Sterling.
Let’s just say, the comments are brutal.
Pepsi has since released a statement saying the commercial is a “global ad that reflects people from different walks of life coming together in a spirit of harmony, and we think that’s an important message to convey.”
