Olu of Warri’s death officially announced, adults to wear clothes inside-out for 3 months
The Warri Traditional Council of Chiefs yesterday at Ode-Itsekiri in Warri, Delta state officially announced the death of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwase II. After announcing the demise of the Olu, Chief Yahya Pessu, member, Olu Advisory Council and other chiefs also announced Godfrey Ikenwoli Emiko (pictured left above) as the Olu-designate.
Chief Pessu said the Itsekiri people world wide will immediately proceed on a three months mourning period and as part of the mourning activities, they will be expected to wear their clothes inside-out; that is to tie their traditional wrappers upside down.
“All Itsekiri adults both male and female will put their clothes inside out throughout this period of mourning. No party, no drumming or merriment of any sort in Itsekiri land, until the burial is over and new Olu installed” he said.
