Man Rapes And Impregnates 12-Year Old

For allegedly raping and putting a 12-year-old girl in the family way, Segun Posu, 30, was on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The accused, a brick layer, who resides at the Ikoga area of Badagry, in Lagos State is being tried for rape.
The prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offence was committed sometime October 2016 at the residence of the accused.

Ogu said that the accused and the victim lived beside each other’s house.

He said, “Any time the victim was sent on an errand, the accused would call her to his house, lure her to his room and rape her.

“According to the victim, she said that the accused had raped her on five different occasions.”

Ogu also told the court that the victim’s guardian got to know when she missed her monthly flow.

He said, “The victim told her guardian that it was the accused that had been raping her.”

Ogu said that the victim was confirmed pregnant at the hospital.

He told the court that the case was brought to the Welfare Centre in Ikeja and was referred to the court.

The offence violates Section 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count preferred against him.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Akanni adjourned the case to March 8, for mention.
