Kogi Gov Election Inconclusive – INEC

The governorship election in Kogi State has been declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

NGTrends had earlier reported that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Abubakar Audu, was winner of the election, which held on Saturday after he scored majority of votes cast in 16 out of the 21 Local Government Areas that make up the state.

Audu was reported to have garnered a total of 240, 867 votes while his opponent and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Idris Wada, polled a total 199,514 votes in the remaining five LGAs.

However, a technicality was discovered in the election by the Returning Officer, Prof. Emmanuel Kucha (Vice-Chancellor of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi), who said the margin of votes between Audu and Wada is 41,353 – lesser than the total number of registered voters in 91 polling units, in 18 local government areas, where election was cancelled is 49,953.

Therefore, based on INEC guidelines, there was no clear winner until supplementary election is held in areas where it was cancelled.
