Fuel Scarcity: We Won’t Be Caught In This Type Of Situation Again, Minister Assures Nigerians

Nigerians have been assured that the lingering fuel scarcity, which has seen the product being sold as high as N400 per litre in some parts of the country, would end in a matter of days.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who gave the assurance on Wednesday during a visit to the Abuja headquarters of Daily Trust newspapers, also promised that the current government will never be caught unawares in this type of protracted fuel crisis again.
Mr. Mohammed, who was received by the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Daily Trust, Mr. Kabir Yusuf, said that the approval of the subsidy payment by the National Assembly, will go a long way in ensuring that till the end of the year, the monster of fuel scarcity doesn’t rear its ugly head.
“We can confidently announce here today that the scarcity will end in a few days. Subsidy payment till the end of the year has been approved by the National Assembly. As you know we can’t spend money without approval”, the Minister was quoted as saying.
The minister noted that the N521 billion that has been approved by the National Assembly as part of the passed supplementary budget of N574.4 billion, would be enough to cover the fuel subsidy till the end of the year.
On the debilitating effect of the fuel scarcity, which saw long queues resurfacing at filling stations for days unending, Mr. Mohammed said the situation would no longer repeat itself, adding: “We can assure you that we won’t be caught in this kind of situation again”.
