FRSC Advises Road Travellers to Desist from Night Journey

The Federal Road Safety Corps, on Tuesday, advised road users to desist from embarking on night journey during the Yuletide.

The FRSC Deputy Sector Commander in Enugu, Mr Lucky Ugele, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu.

“Every road user is advised to do away with night travelling no matter the situation or urgency attached to it,’’ Ugele said.

He said that more than 65 per cent of accidents during the Yuletide occurred during night journey.

“This is unhealthy and inimical to road users due to the danger inherent in night travels,’’ the FRSC official said.

According to Ugele, most roads in Nigeria are in bad shape.

He, however, said that the Federal and State Governments had been trying to improve on all the roads.

“Travelling in the night makes it more difficult for the driver of the vehicle to notice bad spots on the roads and this usually leads to a lot of crashes on the road.

“Most accidents that were recorded in our country during the Yuletide happened at night.

“That is why we are advising motorists to desist from unnecessary travels at night during the period,’’ the deputy sector commander said.

According to him, the FRSC has carried out different enlightenment programmes in order to enlighten the public on the dangers of travelling at night.

He called on all commercial vehicle owners to install speed limit devices in their vehicles as well as make sure that their vehicles were in perfect condition.
