This dress Marilyn Monroe wore to sing for former US president, JFK just sold for N1.5b
The A crystal-encrusted dress worn by late American actress and model, Marilyn Monroe, has just auctioned for a jaw-dropping $4.8m, about N1.5b.
The young beauty had taken to the stage, back in 1962, to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to then president, John F. Kennedy decked out in the stunning, body-hugging dress, which has now been purchased by Ripley’s Believe It or Not museum chain, by far exceeding it’s $3m guide price.
The custom-made Jean Louis gown, which is hand-stitched with over 2,500 crystals, is said to have been so tight, Marilyn was sewn into it. It has been described as ‘the most iconic piece of pop culture that there is’ by Edward Meyer, vice president of Ripley’s Believe It Or Not.
The last item off Marilyn’s closet that had come close to the record is her white costume from The Seven Year Itch – which sold for $4.6m back in 2011.
