Arsene Wenger Addresses Mesut Ozil Transfer to Manchester United
Arsene Wenger insists he is not distracted by speculation linking Mesut Ozil with a move to Manchester United.
The Germany international has reportedly told his teammates he is intent on making a January move to Old Trafford in order to be reunited with his former boss at Real Madrid, Jose Mourinho.
Ozil’s current contract expires at the end of the season and despite a positive update from his agent last week, he appears ready to end his four-year association with Arsenal.
Wenger, however, insists the continuous speculation is not praying on his mind and will not impact on his team selection ahead of Sunday’s must-win game at Everton.
‘No. We have to deal with all kinds of speculation when the players are at the end of their contracts, said Wenger on the reports of Ozil leaving in January.
‘On the other hand, to be professional is to give 100 per cent as long as you are somewhere.
‘For the rest, we came out many times and said that’s the situation. It [the media] can come out tomorrow and say that he extends his contract here. It will be exactly the same, it will not change anything. When you play the next game, commit 100 per cent.’
‘Not really,’ added Wenger when directly asked whether or not a decision over whether Ozil starts on Sunday will be affected by transfer speculation.
