2016 AMAs: Ariana Grande wins Artiste of the Year, Drake and Justin Bieber win 4 awards each
- Along with Ariana, Drake and Bieber, singer Rihanna was also a big winner as she went home with three awards.
23-year-old American singer Ariana Grande won the Artiste of the Year award at the 2016 AMAs, but Drake and Justin Bieber emerged the biggest winners of the night.
Bieber collected four trophies; Video of the Year for ‘Sorry’, Favourite Pop/Rock Male Artiste, Favourite Pop/Rock Song for ‘Love Yourself’ and Favourite Pop/Rock Album for Purpose.
Drake on his part only won four of the 13 nominations he got, his wins being for Favourite Rap/Hip-Hop Artiste, Favourite Soul/R&B Song for ‘Work’ with Rihanna, Favourite Rap/Hip-Hop Song for ‘Hotline Bling’ and Favourite Rap/Hip-Hop Album for Views, which was originally titled Views from the 6.
Rihanna collected three trophies for her studio album ANTI, and collaborative single with Drake, ‘Work.’
Beyonce also appeared on the winners list for Tour of the Year award courtesy of The Formation World Tour that ended on October 7. The tour reportedly grossed $256m from 49 sold out shows.
Nigerian pop star, Wizkid, as well as rappers Future and Desiigner were the biggest losers at the award ceremony hosted by Gigi Hadid and Jay Pharoah.
