Usain Bolt runs first 100m of the year in under 10 seconds to claim victory in Monaco

Eight-time Olympic champion Usain Bolt ran his first 100m this year under 10 seconds to win at the Diamond League in Monaco.

The 30-year-old Jamaican clocked 9.95 to beat America’s Isiah Young (9.98) and South African Akani Simbine (10.02).

Britain’s CJ Ujah ran 10.02 to claim fourth – but all eyes were on Bolt, who brings the curtain down on his stellar career in London next month at the World Championships.

Britain’s Laura Muir was comfortably beaten by Kenyan Hellen Obiri in the women’s 3,000m.

European indoor 1500m and 3,000m champion Muir was up against her fierce rival, the 2016 Olympic 5,000m silver medallist.

Obiri blitzed home in an impressive 8min 23.14sec as Muir ran a personal best 8:30:64 but finished third.

Fellow Brit Eilish McColgan clocked a lifetime best 8:31:39 in fourth place.
