Burna Boy’s OAS Album in One Word is Fierce – @disturbingafrik

Burna Boy #OAS

Nowadays, African youths are all about the sense in every content or context. So, if you’re not making one, for them, you’re not convincing yet. Burna Boy had mostly facts to face us with, in his 2nd studio album ‘On A Spaceship’. On A Spaceship’ is a story, in which Burna Boy discloses his transformation, lifestyle, experiences and achievements in a short time; this is headed by track 3 – ‘Realest’. ‘Realest’ engulfs a low-tempo afro pop song displaying Burna Boy’s music status, result and intention. Burna Boy has no time for the industry or their awards besides his revenue in ‘Duro Ni Be’ as he dishes out quality lyrics alongside unrelenting Phyno. ‘Single’,
featuring Wizkid sets the pace of advanced afro pop songs in due time . ‘Before’ kept stressing when Burna Boy and Flavour weren’t known while Burna boy couldn’t argue less than Wande Coal on their current personal activities on ‘A Very Good Day’ as he turned a monday to a holiday. ‘Rizzla’ is another exceptional song, with repulsive lyrics for those who think the idea and content of the song aren’t right. Rizzla is popularly known as a kind of rolling papers originated from Jamaica, used to smoke cannabis. This song needs a remix with other popular artistes in Africa sharing same view with their personal experiences/thoughts on the subject matter. ‘If People Must Die’ is a solo song and literally, a tribute to Gabriel ‘Gambo’ Serunkuma who died in a car accident in the UK earlier this year. Lyrics is 100% too. ‘Mine Tonight’ is a love song featuring Nyanda, one of the popular duo singers – Brick & Lace. The song centers at sharing happiness with a partner for a night, as Burna boy withholds a love scene with Nyanda through out the song. Burna Boy says a prayer in ‘Ring Ring’, wishing himself all good things of life including giving his girlfriend a ring against all odds.
Burna Boy recruited 9 producers for this project including J Fem, Simba Tagz, Deceptikonz, Sarz, Ellputo, Spellz, Emblazon, J Stunt and Orbeat. The intro of this album has a recording of a music analyst excavating Burna Boy’s controversial music career in 2015. At first, I laughed after listening because the beginning of the recording said “Fantastic artist but I think he (Burna Boy) is on the part of destruction” and the end pin-pointed “Controversy will kill you (Burna Boy)”. Then, I thought of why Burna Boy had to add this clip to the album for everyone to hear but I got confused. After listening again, I saw reasons to believe that Burna Boy wants his fans to accept this as a confession, with respect to his allegations against the Nigerian music industry. For me, Wizkid had a similar controversy when he left E.M.E to create Star Boy yet outclassed later on with smash hit ‘Ojuelegba’. “If eagle perch, dove go perch too – Burna Boy is no difference”.
Burna Boy’s On a Spaceship album in one word is ‘Fierce’. His recruitments were on deck too. Indeed, this album is on a spaceship. I predict enough nominations in near african awards, for this outstanding piece of art.
