The university management was reportedly shying away from its responsibilities, and had repeatedly broken promises made over payments of the staff’s entitlements, according to chapter’s chairman,Dr. Christopher Piwune.

Piwune told the press that “the trouble started shortly after the six-month ASUU nation-wide strike in June 2013; the federal government released money for staff’s welfare and NEEDS assessment, but this money was misappropriated by the university.”

Piwune said over 300 members of staff were not paid, with the school also reneging on postgraduate entitlements owed to some of the staff.

Piwune also complained about the salary gulf between UNIJOS lecturers and lecturers of other Federal Universities, saying the school’s management was also fond of complaining that there was no money.
